Wiper Motor: Service and Repair

WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR REMOVAL / INSTALLATION

CAUTION: The internal permanent magnets used in the windshield wiper motor are made of a glass-like material. To avoid damaging the magnets, do not strike the wiper motor with a hammer or any other object.

NOTE: The windshield wiper motor is not a repairable item. If worn or damaged, the wiper motor must be replaced.





1. Cycle the wiper blades until they are in the straight-up position.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Disconnect the wiper motor electrical connector.




Position the powertrain control module (PCM) connectors and harness aside.
- Remove the harness locator nut and ground stud.
- Disconnect the PCM electrical connectors




4. Remove the screws (1) and right-hand linkage access cover (2).




5. Reach through the access cover opening and un-snap the wiper motor clip.




6. Disconnect the right-hand wiper mounting arm and pivot shaft (A) from the left-hand wiper mounting arm and pivot shaft (B). Move both away from the wiper motor (C).




7. Remove the stud bolt and three bolts from the wiper motor.
8. Remove the wiper motor.

CAUTION: To avoid possible damage to the mounting arm and pivot shaft retainer clip, be sure the clip is fully seated before installing on the wiper motor crank pin.

NOTE: Install the left-hand mounting arm and pivot shaft to the wiper motor before installing the right-hand mounting arm and pivot shaft.

9. Install in reverse order of removal.
