Power Locks: Description and Operation
SECURITY AND LOCKSThe hood consists of the following components:
- Hood latch striker
- Hood latch
- Hood latch release handle and cable
The front doors consist of the following components:
- Front door latch push button rods
- Exterior door handles
- Front door latches
- Interior door handles
- Door lock cylinders
- Door ajar switches
- Door lock control switches
- Door lock actuator
The rear doors consist of the following components:
- Exterior door handles
- Rear door upper latches
- Rear door lower latches
- Interior door handles
- Door ajar switches
The tailgate consists of the following components:
- Tailgate latch
- Tailgate cables
- Tailgate latch remote control
- Tailgate release handle
- Tailgate lock cylinder
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) System
The RKE system consists of the following components:
- RKE transmitter
- Smart junction box (SJB)
The RKE transmitter initiates the following electronic door lock system functions:
- Unlocks the driver door
- Unlocks all doors
- Locks all doors
- Activates/deactivates the panic alarm
- Commands the interior lamps on (when unlocking) and off (when locking)
- Sounds the horn and flashes the parking lamps once when lock is pressed twice within 3 seconds, and the doors are closed
- Sounds the horn twice when lock is pressed twice within 3 seconds, and any door is ajar
The RKE transmitter has a minimum effective range of 10 m (33 feet).
NOTE:
- The panic alarm feature only operates when the key is OFF.
- The LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the RKE transmitter operate independently of key position.
The RKE transmitters (up to 6) are programmable and must be programmed at the same time.
To confirm that the doors are locked, press the LOCK button again within 3 seconds of the first press. The parking lamps flash if the doors have locked and all doors are closed.
To activate the panic alarm:
- Press the red PANIC button on the RKE transmitter. The horn sounds and the parking lamps flash for a maximum of 2 minutes and 45 seconds.
To deactivate the panic alarm:
- Press the red PANIC button on the RKE transmitter.
- Turn the key to RUN/START.
Principles of Operation
Power Door Locks
The smart junction box (SJB) controls the power door locks and remote keyless entry (RKE) system. The lock and unlock operation is carried out by supplying ground to the SJB from either door lock control switch. The door lock actuators ground through the SJB. The door lock control switch locks and unlocks all doors by grounding the appropriate circuit to the SJB. The SJB then supplies power to the appropriate door lock actuator circuits to lock or unlock the doors.
RKE System
The RKE transmitter sends a signal that is received by the SJB. If the unlock signal is received, the SJB unlocks the driver door. If the unlock signal is received again within 3 seconds of the first unlock, the SJB unlocks all doors. If the lock signal is received, the SJB locks all doors.
If the signal received is from the panic button, the SJB cycles ground to the parking lamps and horn. The parking lamps and horn continue to cycle until the panic button is pressed again, the key is turned to the RUN position or 2 minutes and 45 seconds have elapsed.
