Engine Block Heater: Service and Repair
ENGINE BLOCK HEATER REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 3.0L1. Remove the radiator cap.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
4. Remove the air deflector.
5. Drain the engine coolant.
6. Remove in order shown in figure.
7. Install in the reverse order of removal.
Block Heater Cable Removal
Use door trim panel removing tool or equivalent to remove wiring from battery tray, inner fender, engine mount brackets and cylinder block.
Block Heater Removal
1. Make sure block heater electrical terminal is pointing to the 12 o'clock position before removing block heater.
2. Loosen the screw.
3. Pry the block heater from the cylinder block.
4. Clean the inside diameter of core plug hole machined surface and hole entrance. Remove any burrs at hole entrance to avoid damage to O-ring.
5. Cover rubber O-ring with a liberal coating of premium long-life grease or equivalent.
Block Heater Installation
Insert block heater in core plug hole in same position as it was removed and tighten.
Tightening torque 1.6 - 1.8 Nm (16 - 18 kgf-cm, 14 - 16 inch lbs.)
