Timing Cover: Service and Repair
ENGINE FRONT COVER REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 3.0LRemoval
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Drain the engine coolant.
3. Remove the drive belt.
4. Remove the fan and shroud.
5. Remove the water pump pulley.
6. Remove the bolts from the A/C compressor mounting bracket.
7. Remove the bolts and position the power steering bracket and compressor aside.
8. Disconnect the radiator lower hose at the water pump outlet.
9. Remove the crankshaft front oil seal.
10. Remove the oil pan.
11. Remove the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor.
12. Remove the engine front cover and the water pump as an assembly.
^ Remove the bolts.
13. Remove and discard the front cover gasket.
Installation
1. Clean all sealing surfaces and position a new front cover gasket.
2. Position the engine front cover.
3. Apply pipe sealant with Teflon to the bolts to be installed in the locations shown.
4. Install the front cover bolts.
5. Install the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor.
6. Install the oil pan.
7. Install the crankshaft front oil seal.
8. Connect the lower radiator hose to the water pump outlet.
9. Position back the A/C compressor and power steering bracket.
10. Install the bolts to the A/C compressor mounting bracket.
11. Install the water pump pulley.
12. Install the fan shroud and fan.
13. Install the drive belt.
14. Connect the negative battery cable.
15. Fill the engine with coolant and bleed the system.
