Windows: Description and Operation
POWER WINDOW DIAGNOSISSee Mazda truck wiring diagrams.
Principles of Operation
Power Window Operation
The power window system receives power from the accessory delay relay. The accessory delay relay receives fused ignition voltage when the key is in either the RUN or ACCESSORY position. When the accessory delay relay is energized, it supplies power to the one-touch down (OTD) relay and the master power window control switch.
Power Window Control
The power windows can be operated from the individual window switch located on each door panel. The passenger power window can be operated from the driver (master) power window switch. The driver-side window has 2 modes of operation: manual and auto. In manual mode, the window control switch will move the window down until the switch is released.
Auto mode provides one-touch down (OTD) operation for the driver window only. The OTD function moves the driver window to the full open position when the master power window switch is momentarily pressed and released.
One-Touch Down (OTD) Relay
The one-touch down (OTD) relay, which is located in the smart junction box (SJB), receives voltage from the accessory delay relay when the key is turned to either the RUN or ACC position.
The OTD relay is controlled by the SJB, and will only operate when the ignition is in either the RUN or ACC position. A OTD request is initiated when the master window control switch is pressed down for approximately 62 to 320 ms. When the SJB senses a OTD request, it will ground the OTD relay coil. The OTD relay provides power to the LH front power window motor, and moves the window to the full open position until one of the following conditions is met:
- Seven seconds have elapsed
- The window glass reaches the bottom of the track and window motor stall is detected by the SJB
- The master window control switch is pressed UP or DOWN
The OTD feature has 5 inputs and 1 output. The inputs are:
- Ignition Switch Position
- OTD Sense High Input
- OTD Sense Low Input
- Down Window Command Input
- Up Window Command Input The output is:
- OTD Relay Output
Smart Junction Box (SJB)
In addition to being an electrical distribution center for several vehicle systems, the smart junction box (SJB) is a multifunction electronic module, with inputs and outputs for several electrical systems, including the power window system.
During normal operation, the SJB constantly monitors the circuits of electronic systems it controls. If the SJB detects an open, a short to ground or a short to power in the driver-side power window circuits, it will set a diagnostic trouble code (DTC). DTCs can be retrieved with an IDS or equivalent tester. SJB DTCs related to the power window system will not illuminate the malfunction indicator light.
