Disassembly Note

Caution: The snap ring is a select fit. See assembly procedure if the ring or clutch pack is replaced.

1. Remove the reverse and high clutch snap ring and the reverse and high retaining plate.
1) Remove the reverse and high clutch snap ring.
2) Remove the reverse and high retaining plate.





Caution:
^ Clutch plates are directional. Note the direction of the grooves for installation.
^ If new clutch plates are being used, they should be soaked in clean transmission fluid for at least 30 minutes before assembly.


2. Remove the reverse and high clutch disc pack.
1) Inspect and replace the steel and friction plates if worn, damaged, or overheated.
2) Measure and record the steel plates for assembly.





Warning: After removing the snap ring, use care when releasing the pressure on the springs.

Caution: Do not fully compress Clutch Spring Compressor SST 49 G019 025 or damage to the spring retainer may occur.

3. Use Clutch Spring Compressor SST 49 G019 025 to remove the reverse and high clutch piston snap ring.
1) Install Clutch Spring Compressor SST 49 G019 025 and compress the reverse and high clutch piston springs.
2) Remove the reverse and high clutch piston snap ring.





4. Relieve the reverse and high clutch spring tension and remove Clutch Spring Compressor SST 49 G019 025.
5. Remove the reverse and high clutch piston spring retainer and the twenty (20) reverse and high clutch piston springs.
1) Lift the reverse and high clutch piston spring retainer off the reverse and high clutch piston springs.
2) Remove the reverse and high clutch piston springs.





Warning: Do not exceed 138 kPa (20 psi). Wear safety glasses when using compressed air. Make sure drum is facing down as shown.

6. Using compressed air, remove the reverse and high clutch piston from the reverse and high clutch drum.
1) Apply air pressure to the hole in the drum while blocking the other with a finger.





7. Remove the reverse and high clutch piston inner and outer seal rings.
1) Remove the reverse and high clutch piston inner seal rings.
2) Remove the reverse and high clutch piston outer seal rings. Clean and replace as necessary.
