DRIVESHAFT, FRONT DISASSEMBLY / ASSEMBLY









Disassembly Note

1. Remove the front drive axle; see .

CAUTION:Be careful not to damage the driveshaft boot.

2. Remove the two inboard boot clamps.






3. Slide the inboard driveshaft boot off the inboard CV joint housing.






4. Separate the CV joint from the CV joint housing.






5. Mark the shaft and the inboard CV joint to ease alignment during assembly.






6. Remove the snap ring.






7. Remove the CV joint.

8. Remove the inboard driveshaft boot from the shaft assembly.

9. Remove the two outboard boot clamps.






10. Remove the outboard driveshaft boot.
NOTE:If grease is contaminated, clean and inspect the joint for wear. Replace the outboard CV joint and shaft assembly if worn or damaged.

11. Inspect for contaminated grease.

Assembly Note

1. Pack the outboard CV joint (1) with appropriate grease (2).Spread any remaining grease evenly inside the outboard driveshaft boot.






NOTE:Clean the driveshaft boot mounting surfaces of access grease before positioning the driveshaft boot into place.

2. Position the outboard driveshaft boot and outboard boot clamps.
a. Position the outboard driveshaft boot.

b. Position the boot clamps on the outboard driveshaft boot.
NOTE:Tighten the through-bolt until the installer is in the closed position.

3. Use CV Boot Clamp Installer SST (205-343) or equivalent to install the outboard CV joint boot clamps.






4. Position the boot clamp on the driveshaft.






5. Position the inboard driveshaft boot.






6. Install the CV joint on the driveshaft.
a. Line up the marks on the driveshaft and the CV joint.

b. Install the CV joint on the driveshaft.






7. Install the snap ring.






8. Lubricate the three CV joint needle bearings.

- Use appropriate grease.






9. Fill the inboard CV joint housing with 235 grams of grease.

- Use appropriate grease.

10. Position the CV joint housing onto the CV joint.






NOTE:Remove any excess grease from the inboard driveshaft boot mating surface before positioning into place.

11. Position the inboard driveshaft boot and boot clamp.
a. Position the inboard driveshaft boot into place.

b. Position the boot clamp.






12. Insert a dulled screwdriver blade to relieve built-up air pressure in the driveshaft boot.






13. Use the CV Boot Clamp Installer SST (205-343) or equivalent to install the inboard boot clamps.






14. Install the front wheel driveshaft; see .
