INSTRUMENT PANEL
Removal and Installation
All vehicles
1.
WARNING:To reduce the risk of serious personal injury, read and follow all warnings, cautions, notes and instructions in the supplemental restraint system (SRS) deactivation/reactivation procedure.Depower the supplemental restraint system (SRS). See Depowering And Repowering.
2. Lock the steering column.
3. Remove the front seats. See Seat Front Removal / Installation.
1. Remove the 2 screws and position the parking brake release handle aside.
2. Remove the front door scuff plates.
1. Remove the LH and RH lower A-panels.
1 Remove the pin-type retainer.
2 Remove the cowl side trim panel.
1. Remove the 2 screws and position the hood release handle aside.
1. Remove the instrument panel steering column opening cover.
1 Remove the 2 screws.
2 Remove the cover.
1. Remove the instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement.
1 Remove the 5 bolts.Tightening Torque:8 Nm {0.8 kgf-m, 71 in-lbf}
2 Remove the reinforcement.
1. Disconnect the brake pedal position (BPP) switch electrical connector.
1. If equipped, disconnect the clutch pedal position (CPP) switch electrical connector.
1. If equipped, disconnect the transmission shift cable from the steering column.
1 Disconnect the cable from the steering column shift tube lever.
2 Disconnect the cable from the steering column bracket.

CAUTION:To avoid damage to the clockspring, do not allow the steering column shaft to rotate while the intermediate shaft is disconnected.
NOTE:A new steering column pinch bolt must be installed.
Remove the steering column pinch bolt and disconnect the steering column intermediate shaft.Tightening Torque:28 Nm {2.9 kgf-m, 21 ft-lbf}

NOTE:RH A-pillar trim panel shown, LH similar.Remove the LH and RH A-pillar trim panels.
1 Remove the bolt covers and remove the bolts.
2 Remove the assist handle.
3 Remove the A-pillar trim panel.

NOTE:LH weatherstrip shown, RH similar.Remove the weatherstrip from the door.
1. Disconnect the electrical connectors and the ground wire from the RH cowl side trim panel.

CAUTION:To avoid damaging the bulkhead electrical connectors, be sure the release tab is fully depressed before pulling release lever into the disconnect position.Disconnect the LH side bulkhead electrical connector.
- Press the release tab and pull the release lever.
2. Remove the audio unit. See Service and Repair.
1. Lower the glove compartment.
- Press the release tabs inward while lowering the compartment.
1. Through the glove compartment opening, disconnect the blend door actuator electrical connector.
1. Through the glove compartment opening, disconnect the climate control vacuum harness connector.
1. Raise and secure the glove compartment.
- Press the release tabs inward while raising the glove compartment.
1. Remove the instrument panel defroster opening grille.
1. Remove the instrument panel cowl top bolts.Tightening Torque:30 Nm {3.1 kgf-m, 22 ft-lbf}
2. If equipped, remove the floor console. See Service and Repair.
1. If not equipped with high-series floor console, remove the consolette mat.
1. Remove the screws and remove the restraints control module (RCM) cover.
1. Remove the consolette base.
- Remove the screws and remove the base.
Vehicles with manual transmission
1. Remove the gearshift lever. See Service and Repair.
1. Remove the screws and remove the manual transmission consolette.
All vehicles
1. Disconnect the RCM electrical connector.
1 Release the locking tab.
2 Disconnect the RCM electrical connector and ground strap bolt.
1. Pull the floor carpeting back.
2WD vehicles
1. Disconnect the instrument panel main harness.
1 Disconnect the electrical connector.
2 Release the retaining clips.
3 Remove the ground strap.
4WD vehicles
1. Disconnect the instrument panel main harness.
1 From underneath the vehicle, release the instrument panel main harness at the transfer case.
2 Release the retaining clips.
3 Remove the ground strap.
All vehicles
1. Remove the instrument panel side finish panel.
1. Disconnect the door harness electrical connector.
1. Remove the RH side instrument panel bolt.Tightening Torque:30 Nm {3.1 kgf-m, 22 ft-lbf}
1. Remove the LH instrument panel cowl side bolts.

NOTE:Two technicians are required to perform this step.Position the instrument panel to gain access to the door harness electrical connector.
3. Disconnect the door harness electrical connector.
4.
NOTE:Two technicians are required to carry out this step.Remove the instrument panel.
- If necessary, transfer the components to the new instrument panel.
5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Repower the SRS. See Depowering And Repowering.
