STARTER MOTOR REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 4.0L









Removal and Installation

1.

WARNING:When carrying out maintenance on the starting system be aware that heavy gauge leads are connected directly to the battery. Make sure protective caps are in place when maintenance is completed. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. See Lifting.

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. See Procedures.

3. Remove the starter motor solenoid terminal cover.






4. Disconnect the starter wires.






5. Remove the nut and the starter ground cable.






6. Remove the bolt, the stud and the starter motor.






7. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

- Install the starter bolts finger tight.
- Tighten the upper bolt.
- Tighten the lower bolt.
