KNOCKING NOISE FROM A/C COMPRESSOR AT IDLE

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS

2009 CX-7 vehicles with VINS of JM3ER****9*21 5756 - 236118 (produced from May 6, 2008 to Dec. 9, 2008)

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may exhibit a knocking noise from the A/C compressor when the A/C is on and the engine is at idle. The noise becomes more noticeable as the engine warms up. The noise may be caused by excessive clearance between the A/C compressor pulley bearing and its support.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Turn off the A/C at idle. Is the knocking noise still heard?

- If yes, this repair procedure does not apply. Refer to MS3 online instructions or Workshop Manual for further troubleshooting.

- If no, go to next step.

3. Check the vehicle VIN. Is it within the VIN range shown above?

- If yes, go to the next step.

- If no, this repair procedure does not apply. Refer to MS3 online instructions or Workshop Manual (section 07-03 NO.9 NOISE WHILE OPERATING A/C SYSTEM).

4. Turn on the A/C at idle, then set the temperature to max cool. Is the knocking noise still heard in the engine compartment?

- If yes, replace the A/C compressor with a modified part according to M53 online instructions or Workshop Manual (section 07-11 A/C COMPRESSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).

- If no, this repair procedure does not apply. Refer to M53 online instructions or Workshop Manual (section 07-03 NO.9 NOISE WHILE OPERATING A/C SYSTEM).

5. Verify repair.
