Rocker Arm Assembly: Service and Repair

Assembling rocker arm:
Assemble the rocker arms in the formation shown in image.

Care must be taken on the following points:
1. The rocker arm shaft supporters are respectively interchangeable for the inlet and the exhaust.
2. The oil pipe is installed with the oil ejection holes facing the camshaft. In order to avoid vibration of the pipe after it has been installed, the "0" ring fitted on the pipe is pressed into the hole for the pipe on the center bearing cap.
3. The center bearing cap is installed with the oil hole facing toward the inlet side.

Rocker arm assembly
1. Aligning the dowels, position the rocker arm assembly on the cylinder head.

2. Tighten the cylinder head bolts temporarily.
3. Move the rocker arm supporters and offset each of the rocker arms 1 mm (0.04 in) from the valve stem center.

Head Torque Sequence:

4. Tighten the cylinder head bolts evenly to specification in the sequence. Shown in image.
5. Tighten the bolt attaching the cylinder head to the cylinder block.

Tightening torque:
Cylinder head bolt
Cold 90-95 N-m (65-69 ft lb)
Warm 95-100 Min (69-72 ft lb)

6. Aligning the key groove with the pin, install the distributor drive gear to the camshaft. Lock the flywheel with the brake (49 0118 271 A) and tighten the lock nut to 70-80 Nm (51-58 ft lb). Bend the tab of the lock washer.
