Distributor - Revised Oil Seal and Plate

Distributor Oil Leak - 1981 & 1982 GLC








In order to prevent oil leakage from the distributor, TK has adopted an oil seal and thrust plate (Figure A) for the mass production vehicles. A new distributor housing set has been introduced accordingly as a countermeasure part (Figure B).

The modified distributor will be installed on the following vehicles at the production line:

Countermeasure kit part numbers (for vehicles already sold)


The countermeasure repair procedure is as follows:

Disassembly





1. Loosen the number 1 screws and remove the vacuum diaphragm from the distributor body.

Caution:
Do not loosen the number 3 screws on the pick-up coil.

2. Remove the rotor shaft assembly by loosening the number 2 screws.





3. Remove the cap on top of the governor shaft and loosen the screw on the side of the shaft.





4. Remove the retractor.


5. Remove the governor spring and the governor weight.


Assembly

1. Install the governor weight and rotor shaft assembly in the new distributor housing set.





Caution:
Apply grease to the contacting surfaces of the shaft.





2. Install the governor springs 1 and 2 in the spring hanger.


Caution:
Make sure both ends of spring are retained under spring 1 at the spring hanger.

3. Install the rotor shaft assembly on the distributor shaft.





Caution:
ON FWD MODELS align the tang key and rib, with these aligned, the cut away portion of the rotor shaft should face the direction shown in the illustration.





ON THE WAGON align both marks on the distributor housing and shaft. The cut away portion of the shaft should face the vacuum diaphragm as shown in the illustration.

4. After performing the alignment procedure shown in section 3, tighten the screw of the governor shaft and install the cap.

5. Tighten the screws of the breaker base.





Caution:
Make sure the cut away portion of the base fits as shown in the illustration.

6. Install the vacuum diaphragm.
