Rear
Brake Pads, Replace
1. Raise and support rear of vehicle.
2. Remove rear wheel.
3. Disconnect parking brake cable from caliper.
4. Remove caliper lower attaching bolt and swing caliper upward.
5. Remove spring, brake pads and shims.
6. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Turn piston clockwise using tool No. 49FA18602 or equivalent until piston is fully seated in caliper.
b. Ensure stopper groove on piston is perpendicular to caliper mounting points.
c. Ensure dowel on brake pad is properly seated in piston stopper groove.
d. Torque caliper attaching bolt to 22-30 ft.lbs.
Caliper, Replace
1. Raise and support rear of vehicle.
2. Remove rear wheel.
3. Loosen brake line at caliper.
4. Remove caliper lower attaching bolt and swing caliper upward, then slide caliper out toward inside of vehicle.
5. Reverse procedure to install.

Caliper Overhaul
1. Clean outside of caliper.
2. Remove dust boot retainer and the dust boot, Fig. 8.
3. Screw piston out of caliper using tool No. 49FA18602 or equivalent.
4. Remove piston seal, boot retainer, boot and snap ring.

5. Compress conical spring in caliper, Fig. 9, and remove parking brake crank, torsion spring and strut.
6. Remove adjusting bolt and conical spring.
7. Remove needle roller bearings, if necessary, using a suitable press.
8. Thoroughly clean caliper components using clean brake fluid or alcohol and dry with compressed air. Do not use petroleum based solvents to clean caliper components.
9. Inspect components for wear or damage and replace as necessary.
10. Ensure endplay of piston and sleeve nut does not exceed .012-.020 inch (.3-.5 mm).
11. Reverse steps 1 through 7 to assemble caliper, noting the following:
a. Replace dust boot and piston seal.
b. Ensure piston seal seats properly in seal groove.
c. Apply white color grease to caliper mounting pin and attaching bolt.
d. Apply orange color grease to bearings, adjusting bolt, strut and piston boot.
e. Apply pink color grease to piston seal.
f. Apply clean brake fluid to caliper bore and piston.
g. Install needle bearing so arrow on bearing faces outward.

h. Install adjusting bolt, strut and torsion spring into caliper as shown in Fig. 10.
i. Install piston as described under ``Brake Pads, Replace.''
