Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Inspection

1. Clean all carburetor components in suitable solvent and dry with compressed air. Be sure to blow out all carburetor passages completely.
2. Inspect air horn, main body and throttle body for cracks or other damage.
3. Inspect choke shaft and throttle shaft for wear.
4. Inspect air bleeds and jets for restrictions. If any restrictions are evident, clean in solvent and dry with compressed air. Air bleeds and jets must never be cleaned using wire. A wire may enlarge the hole or passage, adversely affecting carburetor performance.
5. Inspect pump piston cup for wear or damage.
6. Check accelerating pump check valve for proper operation.
7. Check power valve piston, if equipped, for proper operation.
8. Inspect float needle and seat for wear and the float for damage.
9. Inspect diaphragm for damage.
10. Inspect mixture adjusting screw for burrs or ridges.
11. Check for continuity between coupler and choke heater ground with an ohmmeter and replace choke heater if no continuity exists.
13. On GLC models, check the following solenoids with 12 volts applied to terminals indicated. If operating sound is not heard when current is applied, the solenoid should be replaced.
a. Air vent solenoid; terminal B and ground.
b. Slow fuel cut solenoid; terminals E and F.
c. A/F solenoid; terminals a and b.
14. On 626 models, check A/F solenoid as follows:
a. Connect one terminal of solenoid to 12 volts and ground the other terminal.
b. Attempt to blow through solenoid. When current is applied, no air should pass through solenoid. When current is not applied air should pass freely through solenoid.
