EGR Delay Valve Kit Field Installation Procedures (1983 626 ATX Vehicle Only)

STEP 1 Check the VIN. If it is higher than those listed below do not install the kit. It has been
installed during production.

Previously Installed EGR Delay Valve Kit:

STEP 2 If the VIN is before those listed above, check for previously installed EGR Delay Valve Kit.

STEP 3 Inspecting for previous installation of EGR Delay Valve Kit.
1) Inspect the vacuum hose between the intake manifold and the EGR Duty Solenoid Valve.

If a delay valve has been previously installed, the installation has been completed.

If there is no delay valve, proceed with the installation procedures as follows.

Delay Valve Assembly:

STEP 4 Kit installation procedures

1) Connect the delay valve and two vacuum hoses. MAKE SURE THAT THE ARROW OF THE DELAY VALVE POINTS TO THE SHORT VACUUM HOSE.

2) Insert the orifice in the long vacuum hose.

3) Clip the two vacuum hoses together with the plastic clip.

4) Install the Delay Valve Assembly.

Note: This work can be completed without removing the air cleaner.

Rotating T-Joint:

a. Remove and discard the vacuum hose (blue stripe) between the duty solenoid valve and the T-joint and rotate the T-joint as shown.

Delay Valve To The Reed Valve Case:

b. Install the delay valve assembly (assembled in Step 1 - 3) so as to connect the short vacuum hose to the duty solenoid valve and the long vacuum hose to the T-joint.

c. Secure the delay valve assembly to the reed valve case on the air cleaner as shown.
Federal Models:
Use the clip and washer provided in the kit.

California Models:
Use the clip already installed to the reed valve case.
Canada Models:
Use the clip already installed to the reed valve case.

Vacuum Hose Routing Label (CALIFORNIA MODELS ONLY):

5) Install the Vacuum Hose Routing Label (CALIFORNIA MODELS ONLY).

a. Place the revised vacuum hose routing label over the old label located on the underside of the hood.
