SPEEDOMETER CABLE ASSEMBLY:




DESCRIPTION

In order to minimize speedometer cable noise, the following modifications have been made in the speedometer cable since the production date of May, 1983.

1. The material of the grommet on the meter side has been changed from rubber to felt.
2. The material of the clamping nut on the transaxle side has been changed from zinc casting to steel.
3. The material of the seal packing on the transaxle side has been changed from rubber to resin.

Replace the original Service Bulletin (Category 15, 113/83) with this revised version.

SPEEDOMETER CABLE:




REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Remove the speedometer cable from the driven gear.

SCREW-IN AND CLIP-ON CONNECTOR:




2. If the driven gear has a clip-on type connector, replace it with a screw-in type (P/N (G402 17 400A). If the driven gear has a screw-in type connector, go to step 3.

Note: The driven gear which has a screw-in type connector has been installed at production line since January 20,1983.

RUBBER GROMMET AT FIREWALL:




3. Remove the rubber grommet at the firewall.
4. Using a screwdriver, remove the resin grommet from the engine side of the firewall.

SPEEDOMETER AND CABLE:




5. Remove the undercover below the steering column.
6. Disconnect the speedometer cable from the speedometer.
7. Install the new cable in the reverse order.
