Kit Component Parts:

Name QTY

Accelerator Pump Plunger 1 pc.

Accelerator Pump Lever 1 pc.

Accelerator Pump Link 1 pc.

A/F Solenoid 1 pc.

Connector 1 pc.

Seal Rubber 1 pc.

Air Horn Gasket 2 pcs.

Split Pin 1 pc.

Washer 1 pc.

Tie Wrap 1 pc.

STEP 1 Check the VIN. If it is higher than those listed below do not install the kit. It has been
installed during production.

JM1BD221 E0776013 JM1BD231 E0775276 JM1BD241 E0750830

STEP 2 If the VIN is before those listed above, check for previously installed A/F Solenoid &
Accelerator Pump Kit.

1) Remove the air cleaner.

2) Look for a white paint mark on the carburetor. A white paint mark indicates the A/F Solenoid & Accelerator Pump Kit has previously been installed.

Float Level:

STEP 3 Kit installation procedures.

1) Check the float level with the engine idling.

If the level is not between the center and upper limit of the dot it must be adjusted once the air horn has been removed.
Note: Look at the sight glass horizontally using a mirror and a light to get an accurate reading.
2) Disconnect the negative battery cable.

3) Remove the carburetor.

4) Remove the air horn.

A/F Solenoid Coupler:

5) Replace the A/F solenoid with the modified one.

a. Cut the coupler off the A/F solenoid wire and discard it.

b. Remove the three (3) screws which hold the A/F solenoid to the air horn. Pull out the A/F solenoid and discard it (re-use wire protection tube).

c. Insert the two (2) terminals of the A/F solenoid wires (one at a time) through the hole in the air horn. Be sure the wires are not twisted.

d. Apply an ample amount of clean engine oil to the "O" ring on the new (modified) A/F solenoid. Carefully install the A/F solenoid and affix it using the three (3) screws.

e. Insert the 2 (two) terminals of the A/F solenoid wires into the coupler (provided). These wires must be in their proper position (see illustration below).

Rubber Sealant and Connector Location:

f. Install the rubber seal (provided) to the coupler. Use an ample amount of sealant on the rubber seal in the area that the wires pass through (see illustration below). This will prevent water or dust from entering the coupler.
Note: The rubber seal must be installed with the smooth side out (away from the connector).

Specification "H" Adjustment:

6) Let the float lower by its own weight and measure the float level WITHOUT the gasket. Adjust specification (H) as necessary so the float level will be at the top of the dot.
7) Replace the accelerator pump plunger with the new (modified) plunger.

Note: Before installing the new plunger, confirm that the check ball and spring for the accelerator pump are in their proper position.

8) Install the air horn to the carburetor body.

a. Apply an ample amount of clean engine oil to the "O" ring on the new (modified) A/F solenoid and the accelerator pump plunger.

Gaskets:

b. Place the air horn on the carburetor body using the correct new gasket (as shown in the illustration). During installation hold the air horn parallel to the carburetor body so the "O" ring is not damaged.
c. Install the six (6) screws which hold the air horn to the carburetor body.

Washer & Cotter Pin And Choke Rod Locations:

9) Re-install the choke rod, washer and cotter pin.
Note: Use the new cotter pin provided.

Accelerator Pump Lever And Link Locations:

10) Install the new (modified) accelerator pump lever and link provided.
11) Remove the anti-tamper pin half-way from the carburetor. Then install the carburetor.

Note: The servo diaphragm linkage must be properly positioned before installing carburetor.

12) Re-install the fuel and vacuum hoses and accelerator cable.

13) Connect the A/F solenoid coupler and other carburetor wires to the wiring harness coupler. Use the tie-wrap (provided) to fasten the A/F solenoid wire to the other carburetor wires.

14) Connect the negative battery cable.

Float Level:

15) Start the engine and let it idle. Check the engine for fuel leaks and check the float level through the sight glass. THE LEVEL MUST BE BETWEEN THE CENTER AND UPPER PORTION OF THE DOT. If it is not re-adjustment of the float level is necessary.
Note: Look at the sight glass horizontally using a mirror and a light to get an accurate reading.

White Paint Mark Location:

16) Put a white paint mark on the air horn of the carburetor.
17) Install the air cleaner.

18) Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature (fan should run at least once).

19) Check the idle speed. Adjust if necessary.

Note: Turn off all lights and electrical accessories, If the cooling fan is operating, the adjustment should not be made until it stops.

A/T - 750 rpm in D-range

20) Check the ignition timing. Adjust if necessary.

A/T - 6~ BTDC in D-range

Note: Reset idle speed if necessary.

21) Adjust the idle mixture. (Be sure air cleaner is ON and idle compensator is closed).

a. Connect a dwell meter (90~, 4 cylinder) to the service connector (Y) for the A/F solenoid.

b. Turn the mixture adjust screw so the dwell meter indicates 32 - 40 degrees in the following condition.

A/T - 750 rpm in D-range

Note 1: The above duty specification is the adjustment point when overhauling the carburetor and installing the kit ONLY. Not the standard when checking.

Note 2: The CHECKING specification for duty is any needle fluctuation between 20~ - 70~

c. Re-install the anti-tamper pin to the carburetor.

Idle Switch, Adjusting Screw and BrR Wire Locations:

22) Adjust idle switch.

a. Be sure engine is warm and choke is off.

b. Be sure idle speed is correct.

c. Connect the positive lead of a voltmeter to the BrR wire at the idle switch connector. Ground the negative lead.
d. Raise engine speed to 2000 rpm.

e. While slowly decreasing the rpm note the voltmeter reading.

A/TBetween 1300-1200 rpm the voltmeter reading should increase from less than 1.5V to 12V.

Note: On M/T vehicles the spec for the idle switch is 1100-1000 rpm.

Throttle Positioner:

23) Adjust the throttle positioner. (Check in neutral).

a. Disconnect the Br connector from the solenoid on the firewall.

b. Engine speed should increase to 1100-1300 rpm. If the proper reading is not obtained, adjust the throttle positioner.

Note: 1300 rpm is recommended.
