DESCRIPTION

Some condensers installed on 1983-84 GLC have been found to have cracks on the fitting to the discharge hose. The condensers are from air conditioner kits with the evaporator number ranges listed on the following page.

This crack will cause leakage of refrigerant, and consequently the air conditioner will not operate properly. Therefore, the warranty period of the condenser is extended to thirty-six (36) months from the date of sale of the air conditioner. This warranty extension will be notified to the concerned customers in August, 1984 as follows:

Dear Mazda GLC Owner:

Consistent with our goal of customer satisfaction, Mazda is offering an extension of the warranty coverage for the condenser of your GLC genuine air conditioner of 3 years from the original retail date. This warranty extension is limited to the condenser of which the evaporator serial number is within the following range. The evaporator serial number is located on the underneath side of the evaporator.

GLC (without power steering):
Evaporator Serial Number E1-058301 thru E1-079936

GLC (with power steering):
Evaporator Serial Number E2-010002 thru E2-012623

Note: This warranty extension will not be applicable other than freon leakage from the connecting area of discharge hose to the condenser.

Please keep this card with your car if you should encounter a condenser problem within the time period allowed, contact a Mazda dealer and show him this card. He will determine if your evaporator number is in the above range. If it is, he will repair or replace your condenser free of charge.

When any failed condenser of the air conditioner within the below mentioned evaporator number range in the period of 36 months from the date of sale of the air conditioner is brought to your dealership, please replace it with a new one according to the repair procedure, without charge to the customer.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Confirm that the air conditioner evaporator number is within the specified range.

The air conditioner evaporator number is located on the underneath side of the evaporator.



2. Recharge the air conditioner system with a small amount of refrigerant and check for refrigerant leaks with a leak detector.

Confirm that leakage occurs from the fitting portion on the condenser to the discharge hose.


Note: It was confirmed that the A/C system had an actual leak at the condenser.

3. Disconnect the battery negative terminal.



4. Remove the front grill and support bracket.

Note: Take care not to scratch the paint on the nose of the car during removal and installation.



5. Remove the condenser in the following order:

(1) Remove four (4) screws attaching the discharge hose to the condenser bracket.




(2) Remove the discharge hose connector from the condenser.




(3) Remove the liquid hose from the receiver-dryer.




(4) Remove the condenser attaching bolt and screws.

(5) Remove the condenser from the car.



6. Remove the liquid hose from the condenser.

7. Install the liquid hose to the new condenser. (part number 0000-67-A10B-3F)

Note: Make sure that the liquid hose is set at approximately 30~ before torquing the fitting to 12 ft.lbs.

8. Install the condenser to the car in the reverse order of 5-(1) thru 5-(5) above.

Note: Torque the fitting between the condenser and the discharge hose to 17 ft.lbs.

9. Reinstall the support bracket and front grill.

10. Reinstall the battery negative terminal.

11. Evacuate and recharge the air conditioner system with 36 ounces of refrigerant.

12. Confirm that there are no refrigerant leaks from the air conditioner system.
