DESCRIPTION

Service parts and suggested repair time for replacing the choke diaphragm have been established. Listed below are pages for the 1983 through 1986 S.R.T. Manuals which required revisions. Please replace the current S.R.T. pages with replacement pages provided.

E-Clip & Vacuum Hose Locations:




REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE

1983-1985 - 626 Federal (Double Diaphragm Type)

1. Disconnect the two vacuum hoses from the choke diaphragm.

2. Remove the E-clip from the diaphragm rod.

Diaphragm Bracket Screw Locations:




3. Remove the two screws which hold the diaphragm bracket and replace the diaphragm.

CHOKE LEVER LOCATION:




4. Adjust the choke pull-off angle as follows:

a) Hold the choke valve fully closed.

b) Apply a vacuum of about 400 mm Hg (15.7 in. Hg) to the diaphragm as shown and check clearance (R).

Clearance (R):
1.95 +/- 0.25 mm (0.077 +/- 0.010 in.)

c) If the clearance is not within the standard value, adjust it by bending the choke lever.

5. Reconnect the vacuum hoses to the diaphragm.

E-CLIP AND VACUUM HOSE LOCATION:




1. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the choke diaphragm.

2. Remove the E-clip from the diaphragm rod.

CHOKE COVER RIVETS AND SCREW LOCATIONS:




3. Remove the two rivets and screw which hold the choke cover.
4. Remove the choke cover from the air horn.

5. Remove three screws which hold the diaphragm bracket and disconnect the spring from the bracket.

6. Replace the choke diaphragm.

SPRING AND SCREWS LOCATIONS:




7. Reinstall the spring and screws removed in Step 5.

CHOKE COVER AND PLATE ASSEMBLY:




8. While holding the choke valve fully closed, reinstall the choke cover and plate and attach them using new rivets and existing screw.

CHOKE PULL-OFF ANGLE ADJUSTMENT:




9. Adjust the choke pull-off angle as follows:

a) Hold the choke valve fully closed.

b) Apply a vacuum of about 400 mm Hg (15.7 in. Hg) to the diaphragm and check clearance (R) as shown.

Clearance (R):
1.95 +/- 0.25 mm (0.077 +/- 0.010 in.)

c) If the clearance is not within the standard value, adjust it by bending the choke lever.
10. Reconnect the vacuum hose to the diaphragm.
