Subject SHIM SELECTOR
DESCRIPTION

The MTX installed in the 1984-85 626 Diesel, 1986-87 626, 1988 626 (except Turbo) and 1988 323 DOHC Mazda vehicles have a larger diameter ring gear to give a 4.105 final drive ratio. Because of this change in diameter, the ring gear will contact the 49GO 30 382 shim selector when selecting the shim as shown below.

For this reason, the 49G0 30 382A shim selector has been established for use on the above models. The part number of the shim selector and shim selector set have been changed and the old parts have been discontinued.

If you have the old shim selector, 49G0 30 382, and do not wish to purchase the new part, you can modify the selector as shown in this bulletin.

MODIFICATION PROCEDURE

1. Choose a machine shop with a milling machine to do this modification work. Do not use a grinder because the heat caused during grinding may deform the threads of the selector.

CAUTION:
Do not use a grinder because the heat caused during grinding may deform the threads of the selector.

2. Use a suitable anti-corrosion oil during machining such as mineral oil, fatty oils or chlorinated paraffin oil.
