1.GLC

a) Scheduled Maintenance

^ 2000 Mile Check

The scheduled maintenance interval has been changed. It now includes a 2000 mile check, at which time the idle speed must be checked and adjusted if necessary.

Ref. W/S Manual 0:18

b) Fuel and Emissions

^ Idle Switch

To provide a more accurate means of adjusting the idle switch, the procedure has been changed as follows.

ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE

FAN AND ACCESSORIES MUST BE OFF.

1. Warm up the engine to the normal operating temperature and run it at idle. (The fan should run at least once).

2. Connect a tachometer.

Fig. 1:

3. Connect a voltmeter to the idle switch terminals as shown. (Figure 1)

4. Increase the engine speed to above 2000 rpm and then decelerate gradually.

5. Record the reading of the voltmeter.

At idle approx. 12V

Above 1,200-1,300 rpm below 1.5V
If the readings do not agree with the above specifications, turn the adjusting screw.

^ A/F Solenoid

The new style A/F Solenoid and accelerator pump introduced in 1984 to improve driveability on the ATX models, has been carried over to the 1985 models. (Figure 2)

Fig. 3:

Caution: The configuration of the 1985 ATX model accelerator pump rod and lever has been modified and can be used on that model only. (Figure 3)

Fig. 4:

^ Float Level

The float setting has been changed. The new measurement is 8.5 - 9.9 mm.

As with all Mazda carburetors this measurement is a starting point only. The final check is made at idle with the engine running. The fuel level must be at the middle to the top of the dot on the sight glass as shown. (Figure 4)

Ref. W/S Manual 4:51 and 4:53

Fig. 5:

^ Duty Readings

Duty is checked the same as in the past. Warm engine at specified idle speed. A reading with the center of fluctuation anywhere between 20~ and 70~ is ok. (Figure 5)

Fig. 6:

^ Duty Adjustment

Duty should only be adjusted after a carburetor overhaul.

Duty must be adjusted with a warm engine at 850 rpm in "N" for the MTX and 750 in "D" for the ATX.

Adjustment should be between 32~ - 40~. (Figure 6)

Note: ATX fluid should be at operating temperature.

The ATX can also be adjusted at 1050 rpm in "N".

c) Engine

^ Spark Plugs

Champion No. RN 11 YC has now been approved for use in the 1985 GLC, along with NGK and Motor Craft.

d) Brakes

^ Brake Pads

The front brake pads are now semi-metallic, with a minimum wear limit of 3 mm. (Figure 7)
