Power Antenna - Fails to Retract
Category Applicable Model/s Subject Bulletin No. 014/8515 1985-1986 626 POWER ANTENNA Issued 9/26/85
Revised
DESCRIPTION
There have been some reports of power antennas which fail to retract on late 1985 and early, 1986 model 626 vehicles. The cause appears to be that the antenna mast conduit base is not securely locked into the motor assembly, thus allowing the mast to feed itself completely out of the motor drive when raised. The mast will not retract, even though the motor runs.
POWER ANTENNA:
If this problem is encountered, turn the key to "ACC" and then turn the radio off and on. If the motor can be heard operating, the correction can be made by reinstalling the rack rope and antenna mast to the motor without replacing any parts.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
Please use the following repair procedure:
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Loosen the front screw on the passenger sill plate and lift about 1". Now remove right kick panel, felt insulation and lower dash trim panel.
POWER ANTENNA REPAIR PROCEDURE:
2. On A/C vehicles, unbolt metal strap (seal plate) connecting blower assembly to evaporator housing and pull back on strap for clearance. On non-A/C models, unscrew blower housing from duct.
3. Disconnect all electrical connectors below blower housing. Clear all wires and move antenna lead (black cable) aside so that blower housing can be swung down.
4. Disconnect heavy blue wire on top of blower housing and unclip air door cable.
5. Unbolt three nuts holding blower housing (pull back carpet to reach two lower nuts).
POWER ANTENNA REPAIR PROCEDURE:
6. On non-A/C vehicles, remove the blower housing. On A/C vehicles, pull the blower housing back towards you on its right side so that the two right mounting studs are cleared. Now swing housing down and towards left allowing it to pivot on lower left mounting stud. Do not attempt to remove housing from this stud.
POWER ANTENNA REPAIR PROCEDURE:
7. Unscrew motor assembly and disconnect from wiring harness. Check plastic rack rope on end of mast. If rope is kinked at sharp angle or broken off, replace mast and check motor for broken piece still inside.
Caution:
Do not disassemble the motor. Replace the motor if the broken piece of rope is left inside the motor
TWO TERMINALS SERVICING CONNECTOR:
8. Feed good rack rope back into motor with toothed side facing motor. Apply Two Terminals Servicing Connector power to white terminal of service connector while grounding red terminal. Use care to feed slowly and disconnect power after slack is taken up.
ANTENNA WATER DRAIN HOSE:
9. Replace motor assembly and lock mast base firmly into motor housing. Be sure antenna water drain hose is routed to hole in floor.
10. Reconnect electrical wiring and check to see if antenna operates smoothly by turning radio off and on (with key "ON").
11. Replace blower housing, wiring and trim in reverse order of removal.
