1. Remove air cleaner cover and air filter.
2. Start engine, accelerate to approximately 1500 RPM, then position a thin piece of paper over control valve inlet port, Fig. 4.
3. Vacuum should suck paper toward port.
4. Disconnect and plug vacuum sensing tube from control valve.
5. Ensure air is not drawn through reed valve.
6. If test results are not as specified, replace control valve. On Federal models, a second air control valve is used. To test No. 2 air control valve, follow the procedure below:
7. Repeat step 2 as outlined above. No vacuum should draw paper toward inlet port.
8. Ground the GL terminal of three-way solenoid valve, Fig. 5.
9. Vacuum should now suck paper toward inlet port of control valve.
