Cylinder Head Bolt - Torque Procedure Revised

Category Applicable Model/s Subject Bulletin No. 009/85
1 1985 626 CYLINDER HEAD BOLT & WASHER Issued 1/22/85
(Except 626DE) Revised
DESCRIPTION

The cylinder head bolt torque procedure has been changed for the 1985 626 Gasoline Engine since the production of November 15, 1984. This new torque procedure is the same as for the 1986 B2000. The following changes apply.

Head Bolt:

CYL. HEAD TIGHTENING TORQUE:

1. Head Bolt

A new head bolt with a "10" mark is used to indicate that the new torque procedure (new washer and new torque specification) is used. In addition, a label indicating the new torque specification is attached to the upper side of the timing belt cover.

Washer:

2. Washer

A new washer with a treated surface is used. This washer has less friction than the old washer; consequently, less torque is needed to provide a proper clamping force.
3. Torque Specification

Since the new washer has less friction than the old washer, the torque specification has been reduced.
Warm Engine: 8.5 m-kg (62 ft.lbs)
Cold Engine:

New

Warm Engine: 9.5-10.0 m-kg
(69-72 ft.lbs)

Cold Engine: 8.2-8.8 m-kg (59-64 ft.lbs)

Old
NOTES:

1. Do not use the old torque specification for 626 engines with a "10" mark on the bolt, since this will stretch the bolt.

2. Do not use the new torque specification for 626 engines without a "10" mark on the bolt, since this will give insufficient clamping force for the cylinder head.
