A/T - No Movement/Fine Steel Cuttings In Pan

SUBJECT: JATCO F3A

PROBLEM:
Vehicle has no drive, no oil pressure.
Oil is not burned.
There are fine steel cuttings in the pan




CAUSE:
The most probable cause is -- the spline in the converter turbine hub worn.

SOLUTION:
To check for this condition, inspect end of the oil pump shaft for evidence of wear. Insert shaft into turbine until fully seated, then withdraw shaft approximately 3/16" to 1/4". If the splines are worn, the shaft can be rotated without moving the turbine.

NOTE:
This problem seems to appear more frequently than any other on the JATCO F3A, as noted in our hotline response cards.
