SUBJECT Throttle Sensor Checker




DESCRIPTION

It has been found that an additional attachment is necessary for proper operation of the Throttle Sensor Checker previously introduced by Service Bulletin Category 40, 007/85. The following is revised information for the newly-established attachment and its usage. Please discard the above mentioned Service Bulletin and use this new information for proper adjustment of the throttle sensor. The new attachment (Attachment A) will be supplied soon at no charge.

USAGE

1984-1987 RX-7 (13B) with EGI and EGI Turbo

1. Warm up the engine to the normal operating temperature. Turn off the engine.

2. Connect the checker and attachment A to the checking connector (green) as shown.


3. Turn on the ignition switch and check that one of the lamps illuminates.



4. If both lamps illuminate or neither lamp illuminates, adjust the throttle sensor by turning the throttle sensor adjusting screw so that one of the lamps illuminates.

NOTE:
^ Do not use excessive pressure on the screw; this may cause incorrect adjustment.
^ This illustration shows 1984-1985 EGI RX-7. 1986 models differ and 1987 Turbo models differ again. Please refer to the appropriate shop manual for exact location of the adjust screw.



1981-1985 RX-7 (12A) with Carburetor

1. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature. Turn off the engine.

2. Disconnect the connector (brown) as shown.



3. Connect the checker and attachments as shown at right.




4. Start the engine. Raise the engine speed to 3000 rpm and release the throttle. Check that the green and red lamps illuminate at the same time. If both lamps do not illuminate at the same time, adjust the throttle sensor by turning the throttle sensor adjusting screw so that both lamps illuminate at the same time.

5. Shut off the engine and disconnect the checker.

6. Connect the connector (brown) disconnected in Step 2.
