Automatic Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair


1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect neutral safety switch electrical connector from transmission.
3. Remove converter housing upper cover.
4. Disconnect vacuum sensing tube from vacuum diaphragm.
5. Remove air cleaner, then the converter housing side cover.
6. Remove bolts securing transmission to rear of engine.
7. Raise and support vehicle.
8. Remove front and rear under covers.
9. Remove converter under cover.
10. Disconnect air pipe, then remove converter brackets.
11. Remove rear exhaust pipe and catalytic converter, then the front exhaust pipe and catalytic converter.
12. Remove floor under covers.
13. Disconnect driveshaft from transmission.
14. Remove starter motor, then the converter housing lower cover.
15. Mark drive plate and torque converter for correct alignment during installation, then remove converter-to-drive plate attaching bolts.
16. Remove bolts securing transmission to rear of engine.
17. Support engine and transmission with a suitable jack, then disconnect speedometer cable.
18. Disconnect selector rod from selector lever.
19. Remove transmission support attaching nuts, then lower transmission slightly and disconnect oil cooler lines from transmission housing.
20. Slide transmission rearward and lower from vehicle.
21. Reverse procedure to install.
