Fuel - Rough Idle or Cranks But Does Not Start

88mazda01

Category Applicable Model/s Subject Bulletin No. 044/88
4 1986-87 323 SOLENOID RESISTOR Issued 3/7/88
Revised

DESCRIPTION

A 323 vehicle with rough idle or that cranks, but doesn't start, may be caused by an open circuit in the solenoid resistor, due to corrosion because of the salt spray from roads in snow areas.

To correct this, the solenoid resistor has been changed to aluminum die-cast type.

In the event that you encounter the above report, please carry out the following diagnostic procedure.

CHECKING PROCEDURE

1. Crank the engine and listen for a clicking sound from the injectors. If all injectors do not make a clicking sound, go to step 2.

2. Check the 30 Amp. E.G.I. fuse.

3. Turn the ignition switch ON and OFF and verify that a clicking sound is heard from the main relays.

If a clicking sound is heard from the main relays, go to step 4.

4. Measure the resistance of the solenoid resistor between B terminal and terminals #1 to #4 with the solenoid resistor connector disconnected.

If the resistance is out of the specification as indicated below, replace the solenoid resistor with a modified one.

Specified Resistance: 5 - 7 Ohms each
