DESCRIPTION

A Throttle Sensor Tester (4992 00 165) has been established for easier, quicker inspection of the throttle sensor seaing.

Inspection and adjustment procedures have also been changed to facilitate using the new tester.

NOTE:
Inspection of the throttle sensor setting on the 1987 626 will no longer be required during "PDI".

INSPECTION OF THROTTLE SENSOR SETTING

Throttle Sensor Tester Position:

1. Disconnect the connector from the throttle sensor.

2. Connect the Throttle Sensor Tester (4992 00 165) to the throttle sensor.

3. The buzzer should sound and the lamp should light.

Checking The Throttle Stop Screw:

4.. Place a 0.7 mm (0.028 in.) thickness gauge between the lever and the throttle stop screw and check that the tester buzzer does not sound and the lamp is off.

5. If not correct, adjust the throttle sensor as shown in the following procedures.

Throttle Sensor Tester Connection:

ADJUSTMENT OF THROTTLE SENSOR SETTING

NOTE:
Adjustment of the throttle sensor setting is usually unnecessary. However, if the throttle sensor is replaced or found to be incorrectly adjusted as a result of the inspection procedure, adjustment must be made.

1. Disconnect the connector from the throttle sensor and connect the Throttle Sensor Tester (4992 00 165).

Checking The Throttle Stop Screw:

2. Place a 0.40 mm (0.016 in.) thickness gauge between the lever and the throttle stop screw.

Rotating The Throttle Sensor:

3. Loosen the two attaching screws.

4. Rotate the throttle sensor clockwise about 30 degrees, then rotate it back counterclockwise until the buzzer sounds.

5. Lightly tighten the two attaching screws.

NOTE:
Be careful not to disturb the throttle sensor position.

Checking The Stop Screw:

6. Replace the thickness gauge with the 0.55 mm (0.022 in.) thickness gauge and check that the buzzer does not sound.

7. If the buzzer sounds, repeat Steps 2 through 6.

Tightening The Attaching Screws:

8. Tighten the two attaching screws.

NOTE:
Be careful not to disturb the throttle sensor position when tightening the screw.

Throttle Sensor Tester Connection:

9. Open the throttle valve fully a few times, then recheck the adjustment of the throttle sensor.

10. Disconnect the tester from the throttle sensor and reconnect the connector.
