DESCRIPTION

If the following conditions occur within the following 15 seconds after cold start in a 1986-87 626, install the repair kit according to the procedures shown in this Bulletin.

NOTE:
This repair kit does function only within the following 15 seconds after engine start.



(A) Engine speed drops excessively for a few seconds and then occasionally stalls.

(B) Engine speed drops excessively with N - D shifting and then occasionally stalls.

These conditions are most likely to occur at an outside temperature of 64~F - 80~F.

Installation Procedure


1. Assembling the solenoid valve and vacuum hoses.

A. Without Turbo. Assemble the vacuum hoses and the solenoid valve in the service kit.



B. With Turbo. Assemble the vacuum hoses and the solenoid valve.



2. Installation of Solenoid Valve
A. Without Turbo
1) Remove one unused bolt (#10, upper side) which is screwed in the firewall near the canister.
2) Install rubber mount (#19) and tighten it.
Tightening Torque: 70-95 in.lb.
3) Install the solenoid valve to rubber mount with nut (#10) and tighten it.
Tightening Torque: 70-95 in.lb.



B. With Turbo

1) Remove the duty solenoid valve.
2) Install the solenoid valve between the duty solenoid valve and the rubber mount of duty solenoid valve. Tightening Torque 70-95 in.lb.



3. Installation of Vacuum Tube with Solenoid Valve

A. Without Turbo

1) Remove the original vacuum hose between the pressure regulator solenoid valve and 3-way joint
2) Install the vacuum hoses which were assembled with the solenoid valve at step 1.



B. With Turbo

1) Remove the original vacuum hose between the pressure regulator solenoid valve and 4-way joint.

2) Install the vacuum hoses which were assembled with the solenoid valve at step 1.



4. Installation of Wire Harness (with & without Turbo)

A. Connect the wire hamess with the control unit.
B. Install the control unit to the relay bracket located under the left side of the dashboard with 2 nuts (#10) and tighten them.
Tightening Torque: 70-95 in.lb.
NOTE:
Remove paint on the stud bolt (B) with a file to obtain a perfect ground.



C. Route the wire harness under the dashboard.
D. Connect 2 ends of wire harness with the wire harness for the emission control unit at X-09.
E. Fasten the wire harness with bands.
F. Pass 1 end of the wire harness through the rubber seal in the firewall and connect it with the solenoid valve which was installed at step 2.
NOTE:
Apply sealing agent fully at the rubber seal, otherwise water or gas fumes will get into the cabin through the clearance of the rubber seal.

5. Adjust the idle speed to the upper limit of specification according to the 1987 626 Workshop Manual, page 4A-60 (Non-Turbo) and page 4B-66 (Turbo).

6. Attachment of Vacuum Hose Label (only for California spec.)

A. Clean the present vacuum hose label.
B. Attach the new label on it.
