DESCRIPTION
Some reports have been received regarding the A/C evaporator on 626 vehicles which "freezes-up" and causes insufficient cooling performance. In most cases, this condition is caused by a defective thermistor and/or a thermistor that is incorrectly installed in the evaporator. If a customer complains about insufficient cooling performance, follow the procedures below in order to diagnose and repair evaporator freeze-up vehicles.
REPAIR PROCEDURES
1. Diagnosis
If the following conditions occur on the vehicle, which may be caused by the evaporator freeze-up, proceed to Step 2.
^ Insufficient cooling from center louver.
^ Compressor does not cycle properly. (Magnet clutch is engaged all the time.)
^ Air volume from vents is reduced noticeably.
2. Check if thermistor probe is properly installed in evaporator.
NOTE:
If the tip of thermistor (red epoxy) is cracked or brittle, replace thermistor with thermistor explained in Step 3.
If the thermistor is properly installed and the conditions in Step 1 continue to occur, replace thermistor with one which contains a white mark or black line on the label as shown.
CAUTION:
When replacing the thermistor, be sure to install the new one to correct position per specifications as shown in Step 2.
NOTE:
White mark or black line indicates thermistor has passed critical testing at manufacturer. Also, thermistor part number (0000 67 0957 85) has NOT been changed.
