Subject
NOISE FROM FRONT STRUT

DESCRIPTION

Some 1986-'87 626 vehicles may exhibit squeaking, groaning or popping noises from the front strut while turning the steering wheel. If this condition is present, please install the modified spacer bearing.

The revised bearing spacer, which was introduced as a service part in December 1989, has been modified. The new version spacer bearing has a lower coefficient of friction. The old version service parts are no longer available at the Parts Distribution Centers.

This bulletin supersedes Service Bulletin Category 13, No. 016/89, issued 12/29/89.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Disassemble the front strut as shown in accordance with the procedures described in the Workshop Manuals.

2. Discard the original washer, seal and thrust bearing. Figure 1.

3. Reassemble the front strut with the new spacer bearing.

NOTE:
a) Do not apply any lubricant to the spacer bearing. They are lubricated during assembly.

b) Torque the piston rod upper nut to 64-80 N-m (47-59 ft.lbs). Do not overtorque nut, or damage to the spacer bearing may result.
