Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

1.Troubleshooting With Digital Code Checker

a. Warm up the engine to normal temperature.

b. Connect digital code checker (49 G018 9A0) to the check connector as shown.

c. Check for code number indication.

d. If a code number is indicated, check for the cause of the problem.

If no code, go to step 2.
Code No. Problem Location Reference

01 Crank angle sensor Refer to workshop manual

02 Air flow meter Refer to workshop manual

03 Water thermo sensor Go to step 1-1

04 Intake air temperature sensor (air flow meter) Refer to workshop manual

05 Oxygen (02) sensor Refer to workshop manual

06 Throttle sensor Refer to workshop manual

07 Pressure sensor Refer to workshop manual

09 Atmospheric pressure sensor Refer to workshop manual

12 Coil with ignitor (trailing side) Refer to workshop manual

15 Intake air temperature sensor (dynamic chamber) Go to step 1-2

1-1 Water Thermo Sensor Check

a. Disconnect the connector from the water thermo sensor.

b. Check for continuity between the GW terminal of the water thermo sensor connector and the 21 terminal of the control unit connector. Repair the wire harness if the resistance is open circuit.

c. Place the water thermo sensor in water with a thermometer and heat up the water gradually.

d. Check the resistance of the sensor using an ohmmeter.

Water Temp. Resistance

32~F (0~C) 5.87 +/- 0.58K Ohms

50~F (10~C) 3.73 +/- 0.37K Ohms

68~F (20~C) 2.45 +/- 0.24K Ohms

86~F (30~C) 1.65 +/- 0.16K Ohms

104~F (40~C) 1.14 +/- 0.11K Ohms

122~F (50~C) 0.81 +/- 0.081K Ohms

140~F (60~C) 0.58 +/- 0.058K Ohms

158~F (70~C) 0.42 +/- 0.042K Ohms

176~F (80~C) 0.32 +/- 0.032K Ohms

Replace the sensor if the resistance is incorrect.

1-2 Intake Air Temperature Sensor Check

a. Disconnect the connector from the intake air temperature sensor located on the dynamic chamber.

b. Check the continuity between the intake temperature sensor connectors and the terminals of the control unit as shown. Repair the wire harness if an open circuit is found.

c. Remove the intake air temperature sensor from the dynamic chamber.

d. Connect an ohmmeter to the sensor terminals and check the resistance of the sensor.

Air Temp. Resistance

32~F (0~C) 110.9 +/- 11.09K Ohms

50~F (10~C) 66.6 +/- 6.66K Ohms

68~F (20~C) 41.4 +/- 4.14K Ohms

86~F (30~C) 26.5 +/- 2.65K Ohms

104~F (40~C) 17.5 +/- 1.75K Ohms

122~F (50~C) 11.8 +/- 1.18K Ohms

140~F (60~C) 8.2 +/- 0.82K Ohms

158~F (70~C) 5.8 +/- 0.58K Ohms

176~F (80~C) 4.2 +/- 0.42K Ohms

Replace the intake air temperature sensor if the resistance is incorrect.
