Trailing Side
Fig. 14 Testing trailing side igniter:
1. Disconnect two prong connector and connect voltmeter between connector halves Fig. 14.
2. Turn ignition switch to ``On'' and ensure voltage is approximately 12 volts. Connect ohmmeter leads correctly. Connect positive lead to ground and negative lead to black wire. Disconnect battery ground cable before removing black or blue wires from coil with igniter.
3. Turn ignition switch to ``Off'' and disconnect voltmeter and the battery ground cable.
Fig. 3 Testing trailing side igniter:
4. Reconnect two prong connector.
5. Disconnect four prong connector and connect igniter checker 49 F108 002 or equivalent to four prong connector of coil with igniter, Fig. 3.
6. Disconnect black and blue wires from coil with igniter.
7. Reconnect battery ground cable.
8. Connect ohmmeter between black wire and ground.
9. Turn ignition switch to ``On.''
10. Set ``SW1'' switch of igniter checker to ``T1'' position, then, while observing ohmmeter, push up ``SW2'' switch. Ohmmeter pointer needle should jump up to approximately 1/3rd scale on the X1 scale, then return.
11. Turn ignition switch to ``Off'' and disconnect ohmmeter.
12. Connect ohmmeter between blue wire and ground. Connect ohmmeter leads correctly. Connect positive lead to ground and negative lead to blue wire.
13. Turn ignition switch to ``On.''
14. Set ``SW1'' switch of igniter checker to ``T2'' position, then, while observing ohmmeter, push up ``SW2'' switch and ensure ohmmeter pointer needle jumps up to approximately 1/3 scale on the X1 scale, then returns.
15. Replace igniter as necessary. High tension leads must remain connected to coil while testing coil with igniter.
