4 1986-1987 RX-7 EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM GROUND Issued 11/19/87
Revised

DESCRIPTION

If you encounter any of the symptoms listed below, those may be due to a loose ground wire for the emission control unit at location 24. Test for the symptom(s) according to the procedure shown in this bulletin.

^ Engine cranks, but will not start or starts intermittently
^ Hesitation, bucking, ignition misfire when driving
^ Engine stall with hot or cold engine
^ Dim illumination of dash warning lights
^ No code on digital code checker or several different codes.

CHECKING PROCEDURE

1. Connect the engine signal monitor (4992 00 162) to the control unit as shown.

2. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature. Turn off the engine then turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.

3. Check that terminal voltages at 3A and 2R read 0 volts. If not, tighten the ground bolt at location 24.

Non-Turbo: Under dynamic chamber
Turbo: Under left intercooler bracket

ALTERNATE CHECKING PROCEDURE

If the engine signal monitor is not available, test as follows:

1. Use an ohmmeter to check the resistance between the 3A and 2R terminals of the control unit connector and ground. If the resistance is not 0, tighten the ground bolt at location 24.
