Automatic Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair


1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Remove heat shields, exhaust pipe and catalytic converter.
4. Disconnect propeller shaft from transmission.
5. Remove vacuum hose attaching clip from side of transmission case.
6. Remove oil cooler line brackets from side of transmission case.
7. Remove starter motor bracket and the starter.
8. Disconnect speedometer cable and shift rod from transmission.
9. Remove oil level gauge and tube from transmission.
10. Disconnect all electrical connectors from transmission.
11. Remove service hole cover from side of transmission case.
12. Remove engine-to-transmission attaching bolts.
13. Mark drive plate and torque converter for installation reference, then remove converter-to-drive plate attaching bolts.
14. Support transmission with a suitable jack, then remove transmission mount attaching bolts and carefully lower transmission from vehicle.
15. Reverse procedure to install.
