Diagnostic Notes


A drop in power, knocking or white smoke from the exhaust may be caused by a faulty component other than the turbocharger. Before troubleshooting turbocharger, check for other component malfunctions as follows:
1. Insufficient compression.
2. Restricted air cleaner.
3. Restricted catalytic converter.
4. Slipping clutch.
5. Brake not releasing or dragging.
6. Faulty ignition system.
7. Restricted, disconnected or improperly connected hoses.
8. Poorly contacted connectors.
