Ignition Timing: Adjustments

1. Warm up engine and let it idle.
2. Turn off all electric loads.
3. Disconnect the wiring connector to the engine cooling fan.
4. Connect a tachometer and a timing light.
5. Check idle speed and adjust if necessary Fig. 7.

Idle Speed: 700-800 M/T 850-950 A/T

6. Disconnect the vacuum hoses from the vacuum control, and plug the hoses Fig. 8.
7. With a timing light check that the mark (yellow) on the crankshaft pulley and the timing mark (6°) on the timing belt cover are aligned.

Initial timing: 6° BTDC

8. If the marks are not aligned, loosen the distributor body installation nut, and turn the body to make the adjustment. Set to specifications.
9. Remove the timing light and connect the wiring connector to the engine cooling fan.
10. Re-connect the vacuum hoses.
