SYSTEM OF 4-SPEED A/T MODELS Revised

DESCRIPTION

The auto cruise control system on '87 626, B2200, B2600 and '86-87 RX-7 4-speed automatic transmission models has a function which cancels the overdrive and downshifts into D3 automatically. This occurs if vehicle speed drops by a specified MPH (see Note 1) from a set cruising speed for 3 seconds during uphill driving. The reason for the downshifting is in order to keep the actual vehicle speed at (or close to) the set cruising speed.

NOTE 1:

626: 2 mph (3 km/h) [until Feb. production]
1.3 mph (2 km/h) [after Feb. production - inclusive]

B2200 & B2600: 1.3 mph (2 km/h)

RX-7: 2 mph (3 km/h)

However, the vehicle will continue running in D3 for a specified period (see Note 2) and only then will upshift to O/D. This occurs even if the actual vehicle speed rises back to the original cruising speed originally set. The reason for the delay is in order to prevent frequent up-and-down shifts during long uphill drives.

NOTE 2:

626: 20 sec. [until Feb. production]
100 sec. [after Feb. production - inclusive]
B2200 & B2600: 100 sec.

RX-7: 20 sec.

During upslope travel set speed:

(A) When vehicle speed drops to (Note 1) km/h (mph) below set speed
(B) When 3 seconds have passed after (A)
(C) When 100 (20) seconds have passed after (B)
The upshift delay (see illustration) is normal, but some customers may complain that the period of running in D3 is too long - especially when driving on up and downhill roads.

In this case, you can manually upshift the gear from D3 to O/D by simply pushing the SET button for a few seconds and then releasing it.

If you receive this kind of complaint, please explain the above and avoid unnecessary repair.
