Removal




1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
2. Disconnect the speedometer cable from the transaxle.
3. Remove the clutch cable bracket mounting bolts, and disconnect the clutch cable from the release lever.




4. Remove the ground wire installation bolt.
5. Remove the wire harness clip.
6. Remove the starter.
7. Mount the engine support (49 G030 025) as shown.




8. Remove the transaxle and engine coupling bolts.
9. Jack up the vehicle and support it with safety stands at the specified positions. Drain out the transaxle oil.
10. Remove the front wheels.
11. Remove the splash shields (left and right).
12. Remove the control link of the stabilizer bar.




13. Remove the under cover.
14. Remove the lower arm ball joint and the knuckle coupling bolt, pull the lower arm downward, and separate the lower arm from the knuckle.

CAUTION: Be careful not to damage the ball joint dust boot.




15. Remove the left driveshaft from the transaxle as follows:
1. Insert a lever between the driveshaft and the transaxle case as shown, and tap the end of the lever to separate the driveshaft and the the differential side gear.

WARNING Do not insert the lever too deeply between the shaft and the case; doing so might damage the lip of the oil seal.




2. Pull the front hub outward, and separate the driveshaft from the transaxle.

CAUTION: In order not to damage the oil seal, hold the joint at the differential side with one hand and pull the shaft straight out.




16. Remove the right driveshaft and the joint shaft as follows:
1. Insert a lever between the driveshaft and the joint shaft as shown, and pry the lever to separate the driveshaft and the joint shaft.




2. Pull the front hub outward, and separate the driveshaft from the joint shaft.
3. Remove the joint shaft bracket mounting bolts, and remove the joint shaft and the shaft bracket from the transaxle as an assembly.




17. Remove the transaxle mounting bracket nuts at crossmember.
18. Remove the crossmember and the left lower arm as an assembly.




19. Separate the change control rod and the change rod.
20. Remove the extension bar from the transaxle.
21. Remove the transaxle under cover.
22. Attach a rope to the transaxle mount bracket at 2 places and to the engine support.
23. Place a board on a jack to support the transaxle.

WARNING: As the transaxle is not well balanced, be careful of the supporting point.

24. Remove the transaxle and engine coupling bolts.
25. Separate the transaxle from the engine.

WARNING: To prevent the transaxle from falling off the lack, loosen the rope while removing the transaxle.




26. Remove the transaxle mount brackets from the transaxle.
