Revised
DESCRIPTION
The following modifications have been made to the 1986 & 1987 RX-7 (Non-Turbo), B2000 and B2200 in order to improve the durability of the transmission since January, 1987 production.
1. Special heat treatment has been applied to all bearings.
2. Dust seals have been installed on both sides of all bearings, except No. 5 bearing.
3. The No. 5 bearing has been changed from a ball bearing to a roller bearing.
4. Lithium grease has been applied to the area of the front cover oil seal.
NOTE:
1) Because the modified bearing with dust seals reduces the amount of oil that reaches the front oil seal, it is necessary to apply lithium grease between the oil seal and bearing during overhaul. Failure to apply lithium grease may reduce the life of the oil seal.
2) When you replace bearing No. 5, replace both the bearing and spacer with new ones as a set.
3) Once the spacer is removed from the countershaft, the spacer can not be reused. The spacer is a directional type, therefore, when you install the new spacer to reassemble the countershaft, please pay attention to its configuration, by referring to the following illustration.
