FB01 66 A90 Antenna Mast

TROUBLESHOOTING

1. Basic idea of the power antenna operation.

When the radio is turned "ON", the ground circuit of the antenna relay is completed through the radio.

The antenna relay turns the antenna motor "ON" and "OFF".

NOTE:
The wiring diagram shown is for illustration purpose only. This is not intended to represent the actual diagram.

2. Troubleshooting for an inoperable power antenna.

a) Check if there is power to the radio.

^ If the display illuminates, go to Step b).

^ If the display does not illuminate, check the audio fuse (20A) in the fuse box or related wire.

b) With the ignition switch "ON", turn the power switch of the radio "ON" and "OFF" and listen for the operating sound of the antenna motor.

If you can hear the motor operating, a bent mast can be the cause of an inoperable antenna. Replace the antenna mast (refer to Step 3.).

If the operating sound is not heard, go to Step c).

c) Locate and disconnect the 4-pin connector to the antenna relay at the left side tail lamp area and check the condition of each terminal of the harness side.

Terminal Voltage

LG 12V

BG 12V (Ignition switch-"ON")

LW 12V (Ignition switch-"ACC")

LY 0V

If the voltage is correct, go to Step d).

If the voltage is not correct, check the related wire or fuse for an open circuit.

d) Reconnect the 4-pin connector and turn the ignition switch to the "ACC" or "ON" position. Ground the "LY" wire using a jumper wire and check the operation of the motor.

^ If the motor operates, check for an open circuit of the "LY" wire between the 4-pin connector and radio. If an open circuit is not found, replace the radio.

^ If the motor does not operate, go to Step e).

e) Remove the antenna assembly and disconnect the 8-pin connector (9-pin for convertible models) from the antenna relay.

With the ignition key in the "OFF" position or removed, connect the terminals of the connector by using the jumper wires as follows, and check the operation of the antenna.

^ To raise the antenna, jump the "LG" and "Br" terminals, then ground the "Y" terminal.

^ To lower the antenna, jump the "LG" and "Y" terminals, then ground the "W" terminal.

^ If the antenna operates as described above, an inoperative relay is the cause of the malfunction. Replace the relay.

^ If the antenna still does not operate, replace the antenna motor.

3. Replacement procedure for the antenna mast.

a) Using snap-ring pliers, remove the mounting nut.

b) With the ignition switch in the "ACC" or "ON" position, turn the radio switch "ON". At the same time, pull the antenna mast out and remove.

CAUTION:
Check the plastic rack end for damage. If the rack end is kinked at a sharp angle or broken off as shown, the broken piece may be left inside the motor. Replace the motor in this case.

c) With the ignition switch in the "ACC" or "ON" position and the radio "ON", feed the rack of the new mast into the motor with toothed side facing toward the front of the vehicle. Turn the radio switch "OFF". While the motor is retracting the rack, feed the mast into the motor.

d) Reinstall the mounting nut.

e) With the ignition switch in the "ACC" or "ON" position, turn the radio "ON" and "OFF" a few times and check to see that the antenna operates smoothly.
