Rear Window Defroster Harness Location:
DESCRIPTION
Some rear window defroster harness (cords) on 1986 RX-7 vehicles may uncoil and cause poor appearance and/or interfere with rear hatch closing operation. To prevent this harness from uncoiling, the harness wire has been modified since the production date of April 1, 1986. Should a customer complain about the uncoiling harness, follow the repair procedures below and replace the harness with the modified one.

Speaker Cover Removal:
REPAIR PROCEDURES
1. Remove screws securing rear speaker cover(s) and remove the speaker cover(s).
B-Pillar Trim and Quarter Trim:
2. Carefully pull back and unsnap upper portion of quarter trim(s) and remove plastic screws (black) securing lower portion of B-pillar trim(s).
Seat Belt Assembly:
3. Lift up at lower portion of seat belt anchor bolt cover(s) and remove bolt(s). Lay assembly aside.
NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the rear glass lower shock support(s).
Side and Rear Garnish:
4. Remove coat hanger(s).
5. Remove plastic caps and tapping screws from rear garnish then remove the rear garnish.
6. Remove plastic cap(s) and tapping screw(s) from the side garnish then carefully pull down and unsnap the side garnish.
B-Pillar Trim:
7. Carefully pull back and unsnap B-pillar trim(s) until harness connnector is accessible. Disconnect connector and remove harness fasteners from body.
Rear WindowDefroster Harness:
8. Remove rear window defroster connector protector cover(s) and unplug connector(s).
NOTE: On the right side harness, remove the 10 mm bolt securing ground wire eyelet.
9. Using a screwdriver or alike, place it under both ends of harness protector and carefully push it up to remove harness assembly and install modified harness assembly in reverse order.
INSTALLATION CAUTIONS
1. Make sure all clips are installed on quarter trim, B-pillar trim, rear garnish, etc., and properly snapped into place.
2. Make sure all molding is properly positioned on outside of trims.
3. Make absolute sure seat belt upper anchor bolt is installed properly and torqued between 28 ft.lbs. to 58 ft.lbs.
