Engine Replace
1. Release fuel system pressure as follows:
a. Start engine, then disconnect circuit opening relay connector.
b. After engine stalls, turn ignition switch Off.
c. Connect circuit opening relay connector.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Drain engine oil, transaxle oil and coolant.
4. Remove front wheel assemblies.
5. Remove battery and air cleaner, then the battery carrier.
6. Remove clutch release cylinder.
7. Disconnect body to transmission ground.
8. Disconnect backup lamp connector, engine harness connectors, shift control cables, heater hoses, speedometer cable thermometer connector and the electric fan switch connector.
9. Remove radiator.
10. Disconnect canister hoses, vacuum hoses and the accelerator cable.
11. Disconnect air hose from intercooler. Cover ends of air hoses and pipes to prevent entry of dirt. Do not insert screwdriver or other sharp instrument between air hose and intercooler pipe when disconnecting.
12. Remove intercooler, being careful not to damage fins.
13. Remove under cover and side cover.
14. Disconnect electrical connectors at starter, oil pressure switch and alternator.
15. Disconnect driveshafts at transmission as described in ``Front Drive Axle.''
16. Disconnect exhaust pipe at manifold.
17. Disconnect 4WD propeller shaft, if equipped.
18. Remove engine crossmember.
19. Remove control unit.
20. Remove remaining engine mounts.
21. Disconnect fuel hoses. When disconnecting hoses, cover hoses with rag to prevent fuel spillage. Plug hoses to prevent leakage.
22. Remove A/C compressor, leaving pressure hoses connected, and secure out of way.
23. Remove power steering pump, leaving pressure hoses connected, and secure out of way.
24. Remove engine from vehicle.
25. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque crossmember attaching bolts to 47-66 ft.lbs.
b. On 2WD vehicles, torque right rear engine mount attaching bolt to 23-34 ft.lbs., left side engine mount attaching bolts to 27-38 ft.lbs. and front engine mount attaching bolts to 46-69 ft.lbs. (frontmost) or 18-26 ft.lbs. (rearmost). Torque front engine mount attaching nut to 44-63 ft.lbs. and all engine mount to crossmember attaching nuts to 47-66 ft.lbs.
c. On 4WD vehicles, torque left side engine mount attaching nut to 27-38 ft.lbs. and front engine mount attaching bolts to 46-69 ft.lbs. (frontmost) or 18-26 ft.lbs. (rearmost). Torque front engine mount attaching nut to 44-63 ft.lbs. and all engine mount to crossmember attaching nuts to 47-66 ft.lbs.
d. On all vehicles, torque crossmember attaching bolts to 47-66 ft.lbs., top rear engine mount attaching bolts to 12-17 ft.lbs. and top rear engine mount attaching nuts to 14-19 ft.lbs.
