1988 323 with DOHC "Turbo" engine Timing Belt Pulley Lock Bolt Special Service Program (SSP-14)Dear Mazda Owner:
Mazda Motor Corporation has found that the tightening torque of the timing belt pulley lock bolt installed on some of the 1988 Mazda 323's equipped with Double Over Head Cam (DOHC) engine may loosen. This condition could cause engine noise and lack of power, and continuous use of the engine in this condition in very rare cases may cause breakage on the front end of the crankshaft.
We are now making arrangements for you to have the timing belt pulley lock bolt on your vehicle replaced, free of charge at any authorized Mazda dealer.
In order to minimize your inconvenience, we recommend that you make an appointment with your dealer on or after September 21, 1990, for the replacement of the timing belt pulley lock bolt. We estimate that it will take approximately two (2) hours. However your Mazda dealer will be able to give you more exact scheduling information.
If you no longer own your 1988 323 with DOHC engine, please complete and mail the enclosed change of ownership pre-paid postcard as soon as possible.
Should you have any questions regarding this program, please contact your nearest authorized Mazda dealer or call Mazda Customer Relations at 1-800-222-5500. This special service program will expire on September 20, 1991.
Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this matter may have caused you. We hope you understand that this program is being conducted to ensure your full satisfaction.
