Campaign - Timing Pulley Bolt Revised: Overview

90mazda03 1988 323 with DOHC "Turbo" engine Timing Belt Pulley Lock Bolt Special Service Program (SSP-14)

Subject: Special Service Program 14 1988 323's with DOHC "Turbo" engine Timing Belt Pulley Lock Bolt

Dear Mazda Dealer:

Mazda Motor Corporation has decided to conduct a Special Service Program for the timing belt pulley lock bolt on certain 1988 Mazda 323's equipped with Double Over Head Cam (DOHC) engine commencing on September 21, 1990. This SSP will expire September 20, 1991.

It has been found that the tightening torque of the timing belt pulley lock bolt installed on some of the 1988 323 with DOHC engine may loosen. This condition could cause engine noise and lack of power, and continuous use of the engine in this condition in very rare cases may cause breakage on the front end of the crankshaft.

Therefore, it is necessary to replace the timing belt pulley lock bolt with a modified one.

Detailed procedures for this program are shown on Attachment sheet I and II and a copy of the owners letter Attachment III.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact your District Service Manager or Regional/Distributor office.

We apologize for any inconvenience that this program may cause you. However, your understanding and support in carrying out this program will be greatly appreciated.
