Deceleration Valve: Testing and Inspection




1. Push dashpot rod with finger and ensure rod goes into dashpot slowly.
2. Release finger and ensure rod comes out quickly.
3. If rod does not function as described, adjust as follows:
a. Warm engine to normal operating temperature and run at idle.
b. Connect tachometer to engine.
c. Increase engine speed to 3500 RPM.
d. Slowly decrease engine speed and ensure dashpot rod contacts lever at 2650---2950 RPM, at 2500-3100 RPM on 1988 non-turbo models w/automatic transaxle, or at 1850-2150 RPM on 1988 323 turbo models.
e. Adjust by loosening locknut and turning dashpot.
