Bulletin No. 050/89

DESCRIPTION
During normal operation, the timing belt moves toward the front of the engine and in some cases may contact the timing belt guide plate. This can cause a squeaky noise at idle after the engine is warmed up.
To correct the problem, the timing belt guide plate has been modified as shown. As you can see, the modified configuration is two (2) pieces.
If you encounter the squeak noise around the front of the engine, follow the checking procedure in this Service Bulletin.
CHECKING PROCEDURE
1. Remove the upper timing belt cover.
2. Drop a small amount of water on the edge of the timing belt.
CAUTION:
THE USE OF WATER IS TO VERIFY THE PROBLEM AREA. DO NOT USE OIL, GREASE OR ANY OTHER LUBRICANT INSTEAD OF WATER.
3. Start the engine and check for noise while idling after the engine has warmed up.
If the noise disappears or changes in tone, replace the timing belt guide plate and timing belt with the modified one in accordance with the Workshop Manual.
If the noise remains and does not change in tone, check for another possible cause.
NOTE:
As stated, the modified timing belt guide plate has been separated into two pieces (A & B). Refer to the illustration for proper installation.
