Preparation, Parts Order & Repair Information




A. Preparation

1. Check the ATX serial number and model (1987 626 or 1988 323).

Subject ATX Serial Number: 035241 - 040898 This number is located on the ID tag as shown below.
Return the vehicle to the owner if it is out of the ATX serial number range as listed above. If the owner complains of trouble on an ATX which falls out of the subject serial number range. repair it on a normal warranty claim basis.

2. If the vehicle ATX serial number is within the range, ask the owner if there are any abnormal driving operations on the ATX.

If the owner complains about ATX trouble such as less power, late shift, no shift or erratic shift,, test drive the car. If abnormal operation of ATX is found, except for normal harshness while up-and-down-shifting, replace the ATX assembly. If abnormal operation of ATX assembly is not found or the owner does not complain, replace the forward and reverse clutch assembly by using the forward and reverse clutch repair kit and 2 washers.
B. Parts Order & Repair

1. Replacement of Forward & Reverse Clutch Assembly

In a case where only the forward and reverse clutch assembly is necessary, take the following procedures.

A) If the subject vehicle is 1988 323 and you stock a forward and reverse clutch repair kit (8AG2 19 500) which was pre-shipped for 1988 626/MX-6 Non-Turbo, replace the forward and reverse clutch with a kit and enclosed washers according to the repair procedures described on page II-7.

B) If you do not stock any forward and reverse clutch repair kits, place your VOR order for an applicable forward and reverse clutch repair kit with your nearest Mazda Parts Warehouse. Also, just in case, if you use up the enclosed washers, place your VOR with your nearest Mazda Parts Warehouse.
C) Taking the delivery date of a forward and reverse clutch repair kit into consideration, make a follow-up appointment with the owner and return his/her 1987 626/1988 323 to him/her.

D) After receiving a forward and reverse clutch repair kit and washers, replace the forward and reverse clutch assembly with a kit and washers according to the repair procedures described on page II-3 or II-7.

NOTE:
At the time of the owner's 2nd visit to the dealer in conjunction with this special service program, if the owner demands a temporary vehicle, prepare a loaner car/rental car for a period not exceeding one full working day.

2. Replacement of ATX Assembly

In case the ATX assembly replacement is necessary, take the following procedures.

NOTE:
Obtain service authorization from your DSM for replacement of the ATX assembly prior to your VOR order.

A) Place your order for one applicable ATX assembly to the Quality Assurance Department of the nearest Mazda Regional/Distributor office.

B) Ask the owner to leave his/her 1987 626/1988 323 at the dealer until the replacement of ATX is completed, and taking the delivery date of the new ATX assembly into consideration, make a follow-up appointment with the owner.

NOTE:
If the owner demands a temporary vehicle, prepare a loaner/rental car for the owner for a period not exceeding three working days.



C) After receiving a new ATX assembly, replace the damaged ATX assembly with a new one by referring to the Workshop Manual.

NOTE:
Before installing the ATX assembly onto the vehicle, flush the cooling circuit line with compressed air as shown below.
