DESCRIPTION

Assist handles are located on the ceiling above the door openings. It has been found that the cap for the assist handle may possibly fall off in 1988 626s (4-Door & 5-Door) equipped with automatic seat belts.

The causes for the problem mentioned above are:
1. Improper configuration of headliner.
2. Headliner crushed by tightening of assist handle mounting bolt.

These two factors greatly reduce the mount clearances between the handle cap and the headliner. Therefore, the catch of the handle cap cannot securely fit and grip the handle. The result is that the cap falls off.

Packing has been added to the assist handle mounting in order to prevent the cap and the headliner from making hard contact since the production date of September 7, 1987. Also for the vehicles stocked at MC, the packing has been added.

In addition, the base seat of the assist handle has been thickened by 2 mm since the production date of October 10, 1987.
If you receive a customer complaint of the assist handle caps falling off, you are requested to replace the assist handle with the modified part.
